The Club was started in 2001 in the Essex/Suffolk border areas to form a group which would actively encourage and develop the “grass roots” rider as well as those who are more competitive. The club provided a place for those everyday riders to get together and have fun with their horses in a supportive, friendly atmosphere. We are a club for over 18 years only and do not provide events for juniors.
Colne Valley Riding Club Ltd is affiliated to the British Horse Society, British Riding Clubs organisation. The riding club sits under the rules and regulations of the BRC and its insurance. Members can be assured that whatever activity they are involved with in CVRC, be they competitive, training, or social activities, it will be professional, trained and fully covered. The club requires that all riders also have their own insurance in place when participating in club events.
We have a great committee who work hard to organise activities, competitions, and social events throughout the year such as dressage competitions, training clinics for flatwork, pole work and show jumping monthly and of course our summer camp. In addition to the more traditional disciplines, the club have also arranged a variety of events in recent years. These include, Le Trec training, pleasure rides, quadrille training, dressage to music sessions, long reining, coach trips to equestrian events, quizzes and Christmas meals.
Our hugely popular summer camp was introduced way back in 2007 and has remained a highlight of the year for members who wish to enjoy a break away with their horses. Our venue, Forest Edge Arena nr Swaffham in Norfolk, is ideally situated to make the most of exploring Thetford Forest. Our Camp provides quality instruction, lectures and
demonstrations, good food, some fun and games with time for relaxation.
Our members take on a variety of roles including stewarding, scoring and writing for example, to assist the committee in running events. We greatly appreciate this as without volunteers we could not run our events.
Whilst we are a mainly grassroots club, Colne Valley Riding Club Ltd encourage the participation of members in BRC team competitions and on many occasions Colne Valley teams have qualified for, and done well at, national championships. There is no pressure to compete, but you will be given every support to do so if you wish to and we are thrilled at the successes our members have achieved.
Colne Valley Riding Club Ltd is a Ltd company by guarantee and all profits go back into the club. We are democratically run, with Directors and an elected committee. There is a formal but lively Annual General Meeting
held at the end of each year with talks/demonstrations and a buffet. Trophies are also awarded in many categories, not only for those who do well at their competitive discipline, but also include trophies for the member who has shown most improvement, the “best turned out” and for “help on the ground” to name but a few– there are usually a few pleasant surprises!
